AI for Employment: In-Work Retention Support Programme - 4 weeks

The In-Work Retention Support Programme is designed to help participants who have secured employment make a confident, stable and successful transition into work. It recognises that the period immediately before starting work, and the first few days and weeks in employment, can be the most vulnerable point in the customer journey.

Many participants who move from unemployment into work face practical, emotional and confidence-related challenges. These may include uncertainty about workplace expectations, anxiety about the first day, travel planning, appropriate dress, lunch arrangements, communication with managers, managing tiredness, understanding workplace culture, childcare routines, budgeting until first pay, and knowing how to respond if something goes wrong.

The programme provides light-touch but structured support from the point of job offer through to the end of the participant’s first four weeks in work. The aim is to reduce early drop-out, improve confidence, support job retention and ensure that the participant feels secure before support is withdrawn.

Delivery model

The programme would be delivered remotely through a combination of:

  • One-to-one online or telephone check-ins.

  • AI-supported preparation tasks.

  • Short practical worksheets.

  • WhatsApp, text or email prompts where appropriate.

  • Emergency support routing where the participant is at risk of leaving work.

  • Final four-week retention review and sign-off.

 

The support would normally begin once a participant receives a job offer or confirmed start date. Where possible, it should begin before the first day of employment, as this is when many preventable issues can be identified and resolved.​

Example structure

Pre-start: Before day one  -  First day preparation session  -  45 to 60 mins  -  First Day Plan

Day one & Two: After first shift  -  First day check-in  -  15 to 20 mins  -  Risk check and action note

End of first week: First week review  -  30 mins  -  First Week Review

End of week two: Retention check-in  -  20 to 30 mins  -  Updated In-Work Action Plan

End of week three: Confidence and performance check  -  20 to 30 mins  -  Progress note

End of week four: Final retention review and sign-off  -  30 to 45 mins  -  Retention Sign-Off Statement
